March 4th Homework:
In class today you were given a copy of the cultural questions that you need to complete for HW, due March 4th.  Some people expressed interest in typing their answers. Having a  copy of these questions that you could download & use might make the typing easier.  I know the layout is not the same as the one I handed out in class, but the questions are the same.

TEAM TRIP - MARCH 5th
Our trip is scheduled for March 5th.  You need to bring 2 snacks & a bagged lunch.
  • You will be able to eat one snack before we leave school.
  • The second snack comes with you to be eaten at the trip location. I would make this a healthy snack that will get you through the day.  There is no place to buy food.
  • Your lunch will be left at school & eaten in your 8th period class.

Give yourself a head start.
ADVANTAGE ASSIGNMENT: (NOTE: You must complete regular work in order to get credit for ADVANTAGE POINTS!)
Advantage Assignments are HW that YOU CHOOSE to do; it’s optional. If you want to do the activity on your own time, go right ahead. When you are finished turn it in to your Class Period Basket.

Credit earned for Advantage Assignments will be reflected in your end of the quarter grade as well in your ability to do well in class.  This assignment is worth 15 points.  Everything will be due by March 10th.

The next culture we will be learning about is Ancient India with the focus on the the Indus River Valley. If you wanted to see the region on a current day map you would be looking to locate current day Pakistan & India.

PART ONE:
Get yourself a book or 2 or 3 or however many you want to read, but at least 1 and start learning about this region & culture.   Make sure you can provide evidence of what you read.  You have your library account & could go to the library or order on line. (Go to http://midhudsonlibraries.org/ to order on line)
Some of the key words you may want to search are:
  • Ancient India
  • Indus River Valley
  • Harappa
  • Mohenjo-Daro
  • Hinduism
  • caste system
  • Vedas
  • reincarnation
  • dharma
  • Buddhism
  • karma
  • Four Noble Truths
  • Eightfold Path
  • Middle Way
  • Siddhartha Gautama
  • Buddha
Make sure you can provide evidence of what you read.
PART TWO:
After reading, go to the CYOA Page & create a project that equals 10 points.  (This means you could do two 5 point choices or one 10 point choice)

Picture

On Feb. 24, 2014, you will have an INB Check.  Its worth 50 points.  It will cover everything from pages 54 - 75, in other words everything we've done on Egypt.

Check & see if you are ready to turn in your best work. Is everything look like you gave it your best effort (accurate, complete, neat, BEST, ELA, colored, etc)?

REMEMBER: Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

If you are missing anything, below are links to almost everything we have done in class.  There is no reason for you not to earn your full 50 points.  (Even if you have been absent!)

The following should be completed:

  • p. 54 = Title Page - your own design.
  • p. 55 = KWL  ("L" part is  not done)
  • p. 56 - 57 Spelling & Vocab. - approx 1/2 the words you should be able to define on your own; use text & spelling city for the rest

Midterm: Review or Wing It?!?!?!

2/3/2014

Picture
I am a big fan of Calvin & Hobbes (by Bill Watterson), but quite often Calvin's ideas are just a little off center... like winging it!  I am not a big fan of winging things that are as important as a midterm.

Attached is the copy of the midterm review that should be a big help to all of you who have never taken a midterm before.

Go through it and see where you are STRONG & where you need help.  Study the areas you need help with. Come ask questions at After School Help (This week Tuesday & Wednesday, next week, Tuesday... test is Wednesday!  YIKES!)

Hope you are enjoying your day off from school!
